ARA raffles off Titan unit to help stop equipment theft
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — October 31, 2006 — “Wow. I expected it to be some big company [that would win]. We’re just a little operation,” said Sandra Howard, president of Valley Sales & Rentals in Brattleboro, Vt., when she was told she won a DPL Telematics GPS unit through the American Rental Association and the National Equipment Register (NER) Rental Fights Back campaign. “I think it’s wonderful. I am just really amazed.”Howard, whose rental operation caters to small contractors and homeowners, decided to participate in the ARA-NER Rental Fights Back campaign because “it makes sense,” she said. “We deliver our equipment to some remote places. Sometimes we have a contractor or homeowner doing a project that is in the middle of the woods. We end up leaving our equipment there unattended overnight.”
“For Howard, registering her equipment is “another way to insure your equipment,” she said. “It’s the most that you can do to protect it. If it is stolen, it will be easier to recover.”
While Howard has had a grapple bucket and chipper stolen, none of her mini-excavators, skid-steer loaders, compactors or concrete tools have ever been stolen. She wants to continue the trend and feels that registering her equipment and using the new Titan Equipment Monitoring System she won from ARA associate member DPL Telematics will help her do just that.
She knows exactly which piece of equipment she will put the GPS unit on, too. “I have two brand-new excavators. I will put it on the largest one,” Howard said.
